Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Chief Executive of Banking Supervision at the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Dian Ediana Rae said the potential of the digital economy today is enormous. Therefore, it needs to be maximised by financial institutions, particularly banks.

Moreover, looking back at the Covid-19 pandemic, Dian said digitalisation has been accelerated and has become a necessity.

“Indonesia’s digital opportunity is very large, and it needs to be utilised by the financial sector, particularly banking,” Dian explained at the Power Lunch and Digital Bank Forum 2026 on Thursday (13/8/2026).

According to Dian, 76% of Indonesians are already proficient and accustomed to modern technology, or tech-savvy. This tech-savvy group is dominated by generations X, Y, and Z, numbering up to 29.1%, who are users of online financial services.

“Going forward, Indonesia’s digital economy is projected to grow at least eightfold to around Rp4,531 trillion by 2030, with the e-commerce sector still dominating. And of course, this will increase the development of digital banking transactions, as well as electronic money transactions, which will certainly become increasingly massive,” Dian explained.

Therefore, OJK is encouraging banks to continue transforming in order to improve their services. In addition, for banks that may not be able to transform on their own, collaboration with fintech is needed.

“With the increasingly massive use of automation through a combination of human creativity to increase productivity, and the growing alliance between banks and fintech and startups. This transformation is not only aimed at improving operational efficiency now, but also at creating services that are more personal, more responsive, and able to reach a wider community,” Dian concluded.
