The Financial Services Authority (OJK) will soon launch a roadmap for strengthening the sharia Financing Institutions, Venture Capital Companies, Microfinance Institutions and Other Financial Services Institutions (PVML) industry to drive growth in a sector that still lags far behind its conventional counterpart.

“We are currently preparing a roadmap for strengthening sharia PVML. It will be launched in the near future,” said Agusman, Chief Executive of Supervision of Financing Institutions, Venture Capital Companies, Microfinance Institutions and Other Financial Services Institutions (PVML) at OJK and Member of the OJK Board of Commissioners, in a statement in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday.

Based on OJK data as of July 2026, total assets in the PVML sector reached Rp1,157.74 trillion. Of that amount, conventional sector assets reached Rp1,022.85 trillion, while sharia assets stood at Rp134.89 trillion.

As a result, sharia PVML assets accounted for approximately 11.7 percent of total PVML sector assets, while conventional assets made up around 88.3 percent.

In terms of financing disbursement, the PVML sector recorded a total of Rp1,064.25 trillion, with conventional financing at Rp939.04 trillion and sharia financing at Rp125.21 trillion. This means, he continued, that sharia financing contributed around 11.8 percent.

“Indeed, its growth is still thin,” said Agusman.

In terms of the number of players, there are 749 PVML entities, comprising 650 conventional players and 99 sharia players. This means sharia players account for approximately 13.2 percent of the total.

He added that the need for a sharia PVML industry development roadmap was also one of the inputs frequently conveyed by industry players to the OJK.

The preparation of the roadmap, he said, is expected to provide clearer development direction for the sharia PVML industry, while also encouraging growth in the sector so that it can increase its contribution to the overall PVML industry.

In addition to sharia PVML matters, the OJK also noted that PVML financing for MSMEs stood at only 30.93 percent of total financing disbursement, or Rp338.6 trillion.
