Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) plans to conduct the grand launch of an investment instrument in the form of a Gold Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) on 27 April 2026, which is expected to expand the retail investor base while promoting the deepening of Indonesia’s capital market.

The Executive Head of Capital Market, Financial Derivatives, and Carbon Exchange Supervision at OJK, Hasan Fawzi, stated that regulations related to the issuance of Gold ETFs have been issued and are now entering the implementation stage.

“For instance, in the recent supply, we have issued and implemented regulations related to the issuance of gold ETFs, which are now in the implementation stage,” said Hasan during a press conference at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) building in Jakarta on Thursday.

Hasan hopes that the presence of the Gold ETF investment instrument can increase retail investor participation in Indonesia’s capital market.

Hasan assured that OJK, together with the Self-Regulatory Organisation (SRO) and all market participants, will continue to promote balanced market deepening, both from the supply and demand sides.

Furthermore, he added, these efforts are being carried out through innovations in instrument development while paying attention to aspects of risk mitigation and investor protection.

“OJK, together with the SRO and all market participants and stakeholders, will continue to promote market deepening in the future, of course in a balanced manner, both from the supply and demand sides, through innovations in development and also balancing with risk mitigation and protection of our investors,” said Hasan.

“Then, from the demand side, for example, we will develop periodic investment programmes for mutual fund instruments, which we hope will expand the retail investor base,” said Hasan.

For information, a Gold ETF is an investment instrument in the form of a mutual fund whose performance refers to the price of gold and its participation units, which are traded on the stock exchange like shares.

Through the Gold ETF, investors can have exposure to gold price movements without needing to store, insure, or secure physical gold directly.
