OJK to Hold RGS 2026, Pushing Governance as Driver of Stability and Economic Growth
Governance and risk management have become inseparable from economic recovery and growth strategies. To this end, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) is once again holding the Risk and Governance Summit (RGS) 2026. Chair of the Audit Board and Member of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Sophia Wattimena, highlighted the surge in public interest in the event. “Participant enthusiasm for RGS has been extraordinary year on year. Last year, the event was attended by 13,000 online participants and around 600–700 people offline. This year, RGS will be held at a larger venue to accommodate more participants,” Sophia said during a discussion between the OJK Board of Commissioners and mass media editors on Friday (10/7/2026). According to Sophia, the participation data reflects the capital market and financial services industry’s need for a comprehensive forum on governance. From a macroeconomic perspective, strengthening governance boosts investor confidence and lowers the cost of capital for financial institutions. RGS targets decision-makers at the director and compliance levels. “We are inviting the majority of compliance directors from the financial services industry. We are opening live broadcasts via YouTube and Zoom so the reach becomes wider,” Sophia said. The RGS agenda features international and national speakers discussing the relationship between governance, risk, and business sustainability. A keynote speech will be delivered by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, along with a GRC Insight session with Meutya Hafid. “The momentum is right in the current situation. We plan to gather input from the audience as output from this event to be forwarded to the relevant chief executives and associations,” Sophia said, emphasising a feedback mechanism that links the forum to policy formulation. Practitioners will highlight the operational implications of governance for technology, banking, and insurance companies. Adnan Rahim from Meta will stress the importance of integrating internal controls and global compliance to support digital expansion. Meanwhile, Fransisca Oei from CIMB Niaga will highlight the role of compliance in maintaining customer trust and bank balance sheet stability. The second session will feature Prof Dr Peter Verhezen, Chair of Crisis Governance at the University of Antwerp, Naohiro Mouri, Chairman of the Audit and Advisory Committee at the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and a GRC professional in the insurance industry, and Dennis Akkerman, author of Business as Unusual and Visionary Founder & Managing Director of Orbis Business School. The closing session will present a banking case study as a benchmark for governance practices that impact performance. President Commissioner of BCA, Jahja Setiaatmaja, will be the speaker for this session. “This session will discuss how BCA’s business growth pays attention to governance principles; is it important or not to apply these principles?” Sophia said. The statement underscores that implementing governance principles is not merely about regulatory compliance, but an economic strategy to maintain market share and reduce systemic risk. RGS is also designed to encourage concrete action. Participants from governance associations in attendance can earn credit points, while audience input will be considered in policy formulation. “These associations are an extension of OJK. How can we promote good governance and what can we strengthen so that policies can be followed up and reinforced going forward,” Sophia added. She expressed hope that the forum would produce concrete and applicable recommendations to strengthen the national financial ecosystem. Carrying the theme “Future-Ready Governance for Sustainable Growth and National Prosperity”, RGS 2026 will be held on 14 July 2026 at Hotel Bidakara, Jakarta. It will serve as a collaborative platform for regulators, industry players, academics, and stakeholders to discuss governance challenges and opportunities amidst global dynamics, including digital transformation, cyber risk, and demands for transparency and integrity.
