OJK Strengthens Financial Services Sector for a Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is committed to continuously strengthening the contribution of the financial services sector in supporting the realisation of a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia. This was conveyed by the Chairperson of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, while leading the 81st Independence Day Commemoration Ceremony at Banteng Square, Jakarta, on Monday (17/8/2026).
Friderica emphasised that this vision would be achieved through strengthening the stability and integrity of the financial services sector, expanding safe financial access, and optimising the sector’s role in driving productive economic activity and sustainable growth.
“To strengthen a sovereign Indonesia, we must ensure the financial services sector remains strong, stable, with integrity, and capable of supporting national development programmes. Our supervision must be robust in facing volatility, adaptive to technology, firm in enforcing regulations, and always oriented towards the national interest,” Friderica said in her address.
In efforts to realise a just Indonesia, the OJK is focusing on expanding access to affordable and responsible financial services. Friderica stressed that financial inclusion must go hand in hand with literacy, while digital innovation must be accompanied by strong consumer protection.
“Digital progress must open doors of opportunity, not create new spaces for fraud or data misuse,” she asserted. This justice also encompasses providing equal opportunities for MSMEs, women, the younger generation, and communities in the Frontier, Outermost, and Least Developed (3T) regions.
Meanwhile, to drive prosperity, the financial services sector is directed to become a driver of productive activities. This is achieved through the channelling of financing that creates jobs, strengthening national industrial downstreaming, and supporting the green economy.
Friderica also reminded thousands of OJK employees of the strategic mandate conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto during the State Address on 14 August. According to her, the addition of these tasks represents a significant trust from the state that must be upheld with high integrity.
Regarding the development of the Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange (BMKS), the OJK is responsible for building a credible and transparent market to support the establishment of an Indonesia Reference Price. “This is part of efforts to strengthen the sovereignty of the Indonesian market for the greatest prosperity of the people,” she said.
On capital market reform, the OJK continues to encourage institutional strengthening and demutualisation of the Stock Exchange so that the Indonesian capital market becomes increasingly liquid and competitive. In the carbon market sector, the OJK ensures the financial services sector becomes an enabler that accelerates green economy financing through Carbon Trading Units (SRUK) connected to global markets.
The 81st Independence Day commemoration ceremony was held simultaneously by all OJK employees in Jakarta and at 39 OJK offices spread across all regions of Indonesia.
