OJK states inter-agency information exchange regarding online gambling is intensifying
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has stated that coordination and information exchange between agencies as part of efforts to eradicate online gambling is currently undergoing continuous strengthening.
OJK stated that it is actively coordinating with the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), Bank Indonesia, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), law enforcement agencies (APH), and relevant stakeholders through coordination forums and increasingly intensive data exchange mechanisms.
“This progress has accelerated the process of identifying accounts indicated to be used for online gambling activities and sped up the necessary follow-up actions by financial service institutions (LJK),” said OJK Banking Supervision Chief Executive Dian Ediana Rae in a written response to ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday.
However, Dian warned that challenges remain, particularly as perpetrators continue to change their modus operandi by utilising third-party accounts, false identities, cross-border digital technology, and extremely rapid fund transfers.
Moving forward, OJK supports the strengthening of system interoperability, the use of analytical technology, and artificial intelligence to detect suspicious transaction patterns, as well as the refinement of data exchange mechanisms while maintaining focus on data protection and legal regulations.
“With these steps, synergy and inter-agency responses are expected to become faster, more precise, and more effective,” said Dian.
Priority strategies include increasing early detection capabilities for accounts and transactions linked to online gambling; strengthening supervision over the implementation of Anti-Money Laundering (APU), Counter-Terrorism Financing (PPT), and Counter-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Financing (PPPSPM) programmes; and improving the quality of governance and risk management by financial service institutions.
Furthermore, OJK and other stakeholders will continue to synergise necessary measures to maintain and enhance the integrity of the national financial system and protect the public from misuse for online gambling and other financial crimes, in order to strengthen Indonesia’s digital economic resilience.
As information, as of July 2026, OJK has requested banks to perform Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and/or Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and to block approximately 36,735 accounts indicated to be involved in online gambling activities, based on data provided by Komdigi.
In addition, OJK is expanding upon these reports by requesting banks to close accounts that match the National Identity Number (NIK) of each party indicated in online gambling, alongside conducting EDD.
According to PPATK records, the turnover of online gambling funds has continued to increase since 2017, from Rp2.01 trillion to reaching Rp359.81 trillion in 2024.
For the first time since 2017, the turnover value decreased significantly in 2025 to Rp286.84 trillion, or approximately 20 per cent compared to the previous year. Deposit values also fell from Rp51.3 trillion in 2024 to Rp36.01 trillion in 2025.
In the first quarter of 2026, the turnover value of online gambling funds reached Rp40.3 trillion, with total deposits amounting to Rp10.59 trillion.
