OJK Seizes 41 Assets Linked to Alleged Sharia Banking Crime at BPRS GP Medan
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) continues to demonstrate a firm commitment to eradicating criminal acts in the financial services sector. Most recently, an OJK investigation team successfully seized and secured 41 assets strongly suspected of being linked to a sharia banking crime at PT Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah (BPRS) GP in Medan, North Sumatra. This strategic move was carried out over two days, on 17–18 June 2026, after obtaining official authorisation from the local District Court. The action is part of law enforcement efforts as well as asset recovery to recoup the bank’s losses, which is currently under intensive investigation. The investigation revealed that the alleged criminal acts occurred between October 2019 and March 2024. The case implicates two main individuals, namely Ms IP, who served as President Director of BPRS GP at the time, and Mr MIL, the end user of the funds. The modus operandi used by the reported parties involved making false entries in the bank’s books and transaction documents. They allegedly disbursed 35 financing facilities to 34 nominee customers, with a total ceiling of Rp15.47 billion. The funds were allegedly used for personal interests and to cover other non-performing financing, ultimately damaging the bank’s soundness. For context, the OJK revoked PT BPRS GP’s business licence on 17 April 2025 before the case progressed to further investigation. During the asset tracing process, investigators discovered that some of the financing collateral was not properly secured in accordance with legal provisions. Many assets only used a Sale and Purchase Binding Agreement instrument, making this seizure crucial to secure evidence and prevent the assets from changing hands. The reported parties are being charged under Law Number 21 of 2008 concerning Sharia Banking, which has been strengthened through Law Number 4 of 2023 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector. The success of this operation is the result of synergy between the OJK, the Indonesian National Police, the Attorney General’s Office, the courts, and the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation. The OJK affirmed it will continue to pursue other assets to protect the public interest and safeguard the integrity of the national financial services industry from illegal practices.
