OJK Reveals Development Roadmap for Regional Development Banks to Boost Economic Growth
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has stated that Regional Development Banks (BPD) possess significant unique characteristics that can boost the economy, prompting the regulator to provide special attention through the BPD development roadmap for 2024-2027. Head of Banking Supervision at OJK, Dian Ediana Rae, said the roadmap was created to ensure BPDs grow with good progress, although he acknowledged the challenges are not easy given the current global and domestic economic situation. Speaking at the Regional Bank Summit 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026), Dian expressed confidence that beyond the roadmap, the potential for BPD development is substantial, noting that progress in human resources, IT, and other business areas has been quite good. He added that while many of their financial ratios may still be below the national total, this is likely due to the characteristic focus of BPDs on developing regional economies. Consequently, the OJK must continue various efforts, including improving IT systems and developing more professional and dynamic human resources to respond to developments in the banking world. As of March 2026, total BPD assets reached Rp1,036.51 trillion, growing 3.20% year-on-year (yoy), with a capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of 26.19%. BPD credit distribution grew from Rp562.85 trillion in December 2022 to Rp656.87 trillion in March 2026, a 1.59% annual increase, supported by a 4.74% yoy growth in Third Party Funds (DPK) to Rp782.04 trillion. Financing quality was maintained, reflected by Gross and Net Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratios of 3.26% and 1.27% respectively.
