OJK Responds to Claims Prabowo's Speeches Affect IHSG Performance
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has responded to circulating claims of a link between President Prabowo Subianto’s speeches and the performance of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IHSG). OJK’s Chief Executive of Capital Market, Derivatives Finance, and Carbon Exchange Supervision, Hasan Fawzi, declined to comment directly but reminded investors to remain rational in their decision-making. Amid dynamic market conditions, Hasan noted that many aspects influence share price movements. “But ultimately, please observe that behind the four-letter ticker of each share lies the operational and business activities of the company,” he told the media at the Indonesia Stock Exchange on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. Hasan explained that every listed company publishes financial reports and corporate actions through information disclosures. He said investors can assess a company’s operational performance and share value from these sources. He further advised investors not to rely solely on social media content, noting that some content creators provide educational material through fundamental and technical analysis, as well as reviews of financial reports. “I think that is a much better reference compared to things that are irrational or have no direct connection to the shares of companies conducting normal business operations over time,” he said. The discussion regarding the link between President Prabowo’s speeches and IHSG performance intensified after the president’s speaking schedule for July 2026 circulated online. According to a schedule uploaded by the Instagram account @stockalpha.id, Prabowo is scheduled to deliver 13 speeches during the month. Bhima Yudhistira, Executive Director of the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios), assessed that the president’s remarks in his speeches do influence market confidence. He argued that policy changes following Prabowo’s speeches make it difficult for investors to calculate risk. In the long term, Bhima said, this could erode trust in the government’s credibility in managing the economy. “When policies change simply because of Prabowo’s speeches, it creates uncertainty and high business costs,” he stated on Monday, 29 June 2026.
