Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has summoned PT Toyota Astra Financial Services (TAFS) to seek clarification regarding alleged violations in the credit collection process that occurred in Serang, Banten. The summons was issued after information emerged concerning the alleged involvement of collection agents who employed violent methods.

OJK stated that the summons, conducted on Monday (8/6/2026), was part of its supervisory function over Financial Services Business Actors (PUJK), specifically to ensure business activities are carried out in accordance with regulations and prioritise consumer protection.

During the meeting, OJK requested an explanation from TAFS regarding circulating information about the company’s alleged connection to the actions of collection agents who conducted collections improperly.

As an initial follow-up, OJK asked the company to conduct a thorough evaluation of its collection process, including reviewing cooperation with third-party collection service companies. This step is necessary to ensure the entire collection process is carried out professionally, ethically, and without violating applicable regulations.

Furthermore, OJK also requested TAFS to submit data, documents, and complete clarifications required for supervisory purposes. The company was also asked to conduct an internal review of the parties allegedly involved and to take corrective measures in accordance with the provisions.

Additionally, TAFS was asked to strengthen its oversight mechanisms for collection activities, whether carried out by internal collection staff or third parties. OJK also requested the company to conduct professional and responsible public communication to maintain public trust in the financing industry.

OJK emphasised that it will continue to investigate and monitor the steps taken by the company in handling the case. If the examination finds violations of applicable regulations, OJK may impose administrative sanctions or other supervisory actions in accordance with its authority.

“OJK will continue to investigate and monitor the follow-up actions taken by PT TAFS. In the event that the investigation finds violations of applicable provisions, OJK may impose administrative sanctions and/or other supervisory actions according to its authority,” OJK stated in its release, quoted on Sunday (14/6/2026).

Furthermore, OJK reminded all financial service companies to conduct their business activities professionally, transparently, responsibly, and with a focus on consumer protection. The regulator also stressed that companies remain responsible for the actions of third parties appointed in the collection process.

According to OJK, collection activities must be conducted ethically and must not involve violence, intimidation, threats, acts of humiliation, or other methods contrary to consumer protection principles.

On the other hand, OJK also reminded consumers of their obligation to fulfil all terms of the agreed financing agreement. Paying instalments on time, in the correct amount and within the agreed period, is a responsibility that must be met by consumers.

Additionally, consumers are required to safeguard the object serving as financing collateral and may not transfer, assign, sell, or lease it to another party without the financing company’s consent.

OJK stressed that failure to meet these obligations may result in collection efforts and resolution measures in accordance with applicable laws and the agreement. Therefore, the public is urged to ensure their ability to pay before applying for financing and to maintain their commitment to fulfil obligations throughout the credit period.

The regulator also urged the public to use financing services from companies licensed and supervised by OJK. If suspected violations by financial service actors are found, the public can submit complaints through OJK’s official channels.
