Jakarta — The Financial Services Authority (OJK) disclosed that within the pipeline, there is potential added value of carbon trading amounting to Rp560.9 billion up to Rp1.39 trillion. Friderica Widyasari Dewi, alias Kiky, Chair of OJK’s Board of Commissioners, told a Working Meeting with Commission XI of the DPR RI in Jakarta on Thursday that the figure results from the potential additional carbon units that can be traded, totalling 9.5 million tonnes CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent). ‘If we look at it, the total projected additional carbon units that can be traded amount to 9.5 million CO2e or at least Rp560.9 billion up to Rp1.39 trillion, with the price per carbon unit traded on IDXCarbon at present,’ she said. Kiky elaborated that the potential additional carbon units of 9.5 million CO2e stem from 49 new proposed projects in the pipeline, which are estimated to have a potential reaching 7.69 million CO2e. ‘Thus, when we look at the total projected additional carbon units that can be traded, they amount to 9.5 million CO2e.’ For context, since IDXCarbon launched on 26 September 2023 to 30 April 2026, IDXCarbon has recorded 155 service users registered and 10 SPE-GRK projects. In this regard, Kiky said the total value of carbon-trading transactions in Indonesia stood at Rp93.75 billion, smaller compared with carbon markets in other countries, such as the European Union at USD 700 billion and China at USD 40 billion.
