The Financial Services Authority (OJK) in Malang, East Java, is strengthening financial literacy and inclusion among students in the region by introducing the One Account, One Student (Kejar) and Diligent Saving (Rabu) programmes as a foundation for building a financially savvy generation. This reinforcement and commitment were realised through a collaboration between OJK Malang, the Regional Financial Access Acceleration Team (TPAKD) of Malang Regency, the Bank Indonesia Malang Representative Office, and the banking industry in implementing the Kejar and Rabu programmes across educational units in Malang Regency under the theme ‘Prosperous Students, Financially Savvy’.

Head of OJK Malang, Farid Faletehan, stated that through the Kejar Programme, his office encourages students to gain access to formal financial services while simultaneously building prudent financial management behaviour. ‘The culture of saving instilled from an early age is expected to equip the younger generation to make responsible financial decisions in the future,’ said Farid.

As of 31 May 2026, the Kejar Programme in Malang Regency has recorded more than 568,527 student accounts with a total balance of around Rp187.67 billion, indicating increased student participation in utilising formal financial services. Through synergy between the regional government, Bank Indonesia, and the financial services industry, OJK hopes the Kejar and Rabu programmes will not only increase student savings account ownership but also instil a culture of saving, discipline in financial management, and responsible financial behaviour from an early age as a foundation towards a more inclusive and prosperous society.

On the occasion, Farid Faletehan expressed appreciation for the commitment of the Malang Regency Government in supporting the implementation of the Kejar Programme. According to him, collaboration between the regional government, regulators, educational units, and the financial services industry is key to building a culture of saving from an early age. Meanwhile, Deputy Head of the Bank Indonesia (BI) Malang Representative Office, Siti Nurfalinda, conveyed that the Kejar and Rabu programmes are aligned with various Bank Indonesia financial education programmes, including the Love, Pride, and Understanding of Rupiah Movement.

Malang Regent Sanusi hopes that the established collaboration can become a long-term investment in shaping a more independent and prosperous young generation. ‘The habit of saving from an early age not only builds the ability to manage finances but also cultivates character traits of discipline, responsibility, and good planning,’ said Sanusi. The event, held at the Pendopo Agung Kabupaten Malang, was also attended by the Assistant for Economy and Development of the Malang Regency Regional Secretary, Prasetyani Arum Anggorowati, and was attended by more than 500 school principals, teachers, school committees, and students from 33 sub-districts in the regency, with around 1,100 participants joining online.

A signing of a Joint Commitment for the Implementation of the Kejar and Rabu Programmes in Malang Regency Educational Units also took place as a renewal of the commitment built since 2021. The signing served to strengthen the synergy of all stakeholders in expanding the programme’s implementation sustainably. The activity also featured the handover of more than 5,000 Student Savings (Simpel) accounts by BRI, Bank Mandiri, BSI, BNI, Bank Jatim, and BPR Artha Kanjuruan to elementary and junior high school students, both public and private, in Malang Regency. On the same occasion, representatives of Financial Services Business Actors (PUJK) also gave appreciation to educational units that actively support the implementation of the Kejar and Rabu programmes. Additionally, OJK together with PUJK provided service booths offering information on the Financial Information Service System (SLIK), financial services, product and financial service consultations, financing access, account opening, and financial education to the public.
