OJK Issues Regulation for Financial Influencers
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has issued a regulation containing provisions on financial influencers, or finfluencers. The provision is contained in OJK Regulation Number 6 of 2026 concerning the Conduct of Financial Services Sector Information Providers, which was promulgated on 4 June 2026. “This POJK on Information Providers (Financial Influencers) is the OJK’s effort to encourage the delivery of information in the financial services sector that is clear, accurate, honest, easily accessible, and not potentially misleading, so as to support consumer and public protection,” said Agus Firmansyah, Head of the OJK’s Integrated Financial Services Sector Surveillance and Policy Department, in a press release on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. In the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) sheet for the POJK, the OJK stated that the increasing role of finfluencers in disseminating information can influence the actions of consumers and the public. However, this phenomenon is often exploited by certain irresponsible parties to gain personal or group benefits without considering the risks and impacts caused. The POJK states that information delivery activities by finfluencers include financial education, marketing, and providing recommendations. The method of delivering information can be face-to-face (offline) or non-face-to-face (online). One of the aspects regulated in this POJK is that finfluencers are required to disclose if they receive an economic interest from the information conveyed. In addition, finfluencers are also required to include information if the product or service they review is high-risk. In the event of a violation of the POJK, Financial Services Institutions (PJK) can take disciplinary actions and issue written orders to the relevant finfluencer. If the influencer does not follow up on the written order, the OJK may impose sanctions in accordance with the law. Meanwhile, for influencers who convey information through electronic media, the OJK can submit a request for access termination to the Ministry of Communication and Digital.
