OJK Identifies 32,556 Accounts Suspected of Online Gambling, Banks Ordered to Close Accounts
The Head of Banking Supervision at the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Dian Ediana Rae, has revealed that the number of accounts suspected of being involved in online gambling (judol) continues to surge. As of early February 2026, a total of 32,556 accounts have been identified as related to judol activities, representing an increase compared to the previous month’s findings of 32,144 accounts.
Dian emphasised that the OJK has requested banking institutions to immediately proceed with blocking these accounts. “The OJK has requested banks to block approximately 32,556 accounts,” stated Dian during the Financial Services Authority’s Monthly Board of Commissioners Meeting Press Conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
She explained that the account data was obtained from the Ministry of Communication and Digital. The OJK subsequently followed up on the report by requesting banks to close accounts that match with national identification numbers and to conduct enhanced due diligence (EDD) or further investigation.
This measure, Dian continued, forms part of efforts to protect consumers and maintain the integrity of the financial system. According to her, combating online gambling has become essential because such activities have widespread impact on the economy and the financial sector. “Combating online gambling has a broad impact on the economy and the financial sector,” she affirmed.
In the disclosure of online gambling activities, it was noted that perpetrators do not only use personal mobile phones. They may also use devices located at gambling establishments. Perpetrators are known to have accumulated debts, with some even having pawned their wives’ motorcycles valued at 4 million rupiah.
The Financial Intelligence Unit (PPATK)’s statement claiming that in 2025 Indonesia successfully reduced online gambling figures for the first time has been questioned. Throughout 2025, the PPATK received 43 million reports from reporting parties, an increase of 22.5 per cent compared to 2024, which recorded 35.6 million reports.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital has expressed appreciation to GoPay, a digital wallet service under GoTo Financial and GoTo Group, for its contribution to combating online gambling.
