OJK Head States Women as Key Pillars of the Economy
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The role of women in driving Indonesia’s economy is considered very significant. This is not without reason, given that many micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) actors in Indonesia are currently owned or led by women.
As is known, MSMEs currently form the backbone of Indonesia’s economy, contributing up to 61% to the gross domestic product and being the largest contributor to employment absorption.
“If we look at how our MSMEs are largely owned and led by women. 64.5% of MSME actors in Indonesia are women or more than 37% of women entrepreneurs in various economic sectors, which greatly contribute to Indonesia’s economy,” said the Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, at the Top Woman Fest 2026 in Sarinah, Jakarta, on Saturday (25/4/2026).
Friderica also highly regards the great figure Raden Ajeng Kartini, who has successfully empowered women. This serves as proof that RA Kartini’s struggle was not in vain. Because the high or low standing of a nation is determined by the position of women.
With the increasing contribution of women, she hopes that various parties can join in promoting the role of women, especially in the era of digitalisation.
“The context is about women, how to empower women more, what is being done? We are talking about digitalisation, economic growth especially for women through MSMEs, digital finance can empower Indonesian women,” she explained.
This, she continued, is very important to do, considering that many women are still trapped or deceived due to a lack of understanding regarding digital technology. Thus, many complaints from women enter the Financial Services Authority due to bogus funding.
OJK is continuously working hard and actively collaborating to educate so that such things can be prevented.
“They are easily trusting, for example, online shopping utilising bogus funding, that is our collective task on how to empower our sisters more successfully for the country we love,” she clarified.
