OJK Forms Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange Task Force, Prepares Regulations Ahead of 2027 Launch
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has formed a Task Force for the Preparation of Regulation and Supervision of the Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange (Satgas BMKS). This step is taken to prepare the regulatory framework, supervision, and supporting infrastructure before the mineral and strategic commodities exchange begins operations in 2027.
Chair of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, stated that the formation of the task force is part of OJK’s internal efforts to ensure all regulatory and institutional aspects are ready when the supervisory authority is officially exercised. “Currently, OJK, together with several other parties, is still in the process of preparing and refining the regulatory framework and institutions necessary for its implementation,” Friderica said during a press conference on the results of the Monthly Board of Commissioners Meeting in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Friderica explained that the BMKS Task Force is tasked with preparing various supporting aspects so that the implementation of the mineral and strategic commodities exchange can proceed according to regulations. These preparations include not only drafting regulations but also strengthening the organisation, ensuring human resource readiness, and developing other supporting infrastructure. Additionally, OJK is preparing the budget, structuring business processes, developing information technology systems, and various facilities required for the exchange’s supervision.
According to Friderica, OJK will provide further updates on the formation process and readiness of the mineral and strategic commodities exchange as the preparatory stages progress. The establishment of the BMKS Task Force follows the mandate of Law Number 4 of 2026 concerning Amendments to Law Number 4 of 2023 on Financial Sector Development and Strengthening (UU P2SK). Through this regulation, OJK has been granted additional authority to regulate and supervise the operation of mineral and strategic commodities exchanges in Indonesia.
In accordance with the provisions of the P2SK Law, the mineral and strategic commodities exchange is scheduled to be established and commence operations on 1 January 2027. At the same time, OJK will also begin carrying out its regulatory and supervisory duties over transactions conducted on the exchange. Along with this expansion of authority, OJK will also have an additional Board of Commissioners member specifically tasked with overseeing the mineral and strategic commodities exchange.
