OJK Chief Urges Financial Services Institutions to Remain Vigilant
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has asked the financial services industry to continue monitoring the ongoing global geopolitical developments in the Middle East. OJK Commissioner Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi stated that although the financial sector remains stable at present, the escalation of these geopolitical tensions could disrupt economic recovery.
“Our anticipatory steps encourage the financial services sector to conduct assessments,” she said during a virtual press conference on Monday (6/4/2026).
The woman, familiarly known as Kiki, explained that prior to the global geopolitical conflict in the Middle East, the global economic outlook was on a strengthening path. However, projections changed following shocks from inter-country disputes.
“However, the escalation of geopolitical tensions has disrupted the recovery path. The OECD in its latest report cut projections due to the situation in the Middle East disrupting supply chains,” she clarified.
Furthermore, she added, this could impact the economy as a whole. “Second-round effects will thus become a dynamic factor,” she added.
Kiki emphasised that OJK, as a strategic instrument for the financial services sector, will strive optimally to support inclusive economic policies.
In the same opportunity, OJK’s Executive Head of Banking Supervision Dian Ediana Rae stated that regarding the impact of the escalation of the conflict between the United States (US) and Iran, the direct impact on Indonesian banking is relatively limited.
“Given that direct non-resident exposure is quite small, the influence is not significant,” she revealed.
However, she added, what needs attention is the open economic system that could envelop Indonesia’s economy in uncertainty.
“Globally, we know precisely that this has a significant impact; geopolitics and geo-economics, if prolonged, also have the potential to become sources of vulnerability and affect Indonesia’s economy through both trade and financial channels,” she said.
