OJK Chief Reveals Keys for Young People to Succeed in the Digitalisation Era
Yogyakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Friderica Widyasari Dewi, chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), said that the challenge facing Indonesia’s youth today is no longer the difficulty of obtaining information, but the ability to sift the information correctly amidst the deluge of digital content.
She made the remarks at Jogja Financial Festival (Finfest) 2026 in Yogyakarta on Friday (22 May 2026).
According to her, Generation Z is now the dominant group shaping the national financial sector because they are growing up in the digitalisation era and a flood of information.
“Gen Z is very interesting. They are shaping our financial sector. The first generation to grow up in the digitalisation era,” she said.
Friderica compared the condition of previous generations who had to work hard to obtain information in order to achieve success.
“If in the old days, to search for information one had to make an effort, go to the library, look for newspapers, read, and so on. Now, when you wake up, you are presented with various information,” she said.
However, she said, the ease of access to information brings a new challenge for the younger generation.
“If in the past you had to seek information to be successful. Now to be successful you must be able to filter information, because not all of it is true,” she said.
She emphasised that the ability to filter information will be crucial for the future of the younger generation, especially amid the spread of content that is unhealthy and uneducational on social media.
“Your ability to sift and choose information will determine the future. Content that is not good, not healthy, not educational, do not watch it,” she said.
On that occasion, Friderica reminded the youth to cultivate positive habits early on, from diligent studying, exercising, to financially managing their finances with discipline.
She assessed that a person’s current habits will determine their future.
“If you want to know someone’s future, look at what they do now,” she said.
Friderica also applauded the young participants who attended Finfest 2026, as she believed they had taken the right step by learning about finance and investment from an early stage.
“Today, you who are here have already done the right thing by learning about finance for the future. I am optimistic you have a brilliant future,” she concluded.
