OJK Chair Friderica Discusses Current Economic Situation to MSCI Update

OJK Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi has expressed her confidence that Indonesia can weather the current period of uncertainty effectively. This assurance was given during her keynote speech at Top Women Fest 2026 held at Area Relief Sarinah in Central Jakarta.

According to her, the nation is currently facing challenging global dynamics, triggered by geopolitical issues to energy commodity prices.

“However, we must collectively remain optimistic that we can overcome all this very well,” Friderica stated.

Friderica also assured that from a fiscal perspective, Indonesia is in a solid condition. The same applies to the financial services and banking sectors, where credit growth and non-performing loans remain under control.

During the event, Friderica recounted her meeting with Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI). The OJK has provided updates on efforts to improve the domestic capital market. According to Friderica, MSCI expressed appreciation for OJK’s actions, especially regarding integrity, governance, and management.

“And we were surprised yesterday when MSCI issued a statement, which we will see in their review this May and June. But essentially, all of this is done to further encourage our financial services sector to grow solidly, credibly, and sustainably,” she said.
