OJK: Carbon Market Infrastructure Aimed at Public Welfare

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has emphasised that all infrastructure strengthening and regulatory integration within the national carbon trading ecosystem are ultimately aimed at boosting the welfare of the wider community.

Speaking after the launch of the Ministry of Environment’s Carbon Unit Registration System (SRUK) in Jakarta on Thursday, Chair of the OJK Board of Commissioners Friderica Widyasari Dewi said the government is committed to ensuring that Indonesia’s green economy potential has a tangible impact on social life.

“Our hope is that Indonesia, as a country with such enormous natural resource potential, can become a leader in the global carbon market, and of course, we hope the goal is to further improve people’s welfare,” she said.

Friderica explained that to realise this socio-economic impact, the SRUK will function as the primary market, serving as the backbone of carbon trading before connecting to the secondary market on the Indonesia Carbon Exchange. This system connectivity is expected to broaden the absorption of fresh funds from both the public and global sectors, allowing them to flow directly to community-based environmental programmes at the grassroots level.

As a form of full support for the success of the national carbon market, Friderica added that the OJK has also issued Financial Services Authority Regulation (POJK) Number 10/2024, which aligns with the regulatory mandate on Carbon Economic Value (NEK) and National Greenhouse Gas Emission Control. The OJK ensures that through this regulatory synchronisation, the financial services sector has a strong legal foundation to fund various decarbonisation projects involving the active participation of local communities.

“POJK Number 10/2024 is also a form of our support, as it has adjusted everything contained in Presidential Regulation 110/2025, so that with this POJK we are more confident that the financial services sector can further support the success of this carbon trading programme, thank you,” she affirmed.
