Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Friderica Widyasari Dewi, has inaugurated and sworn in Henry Rialdi as Deputy Commissioner for the Regulation and Supervision of the Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange (BMKS) today, Wednesday (19/8/2026) in Jakarta. The appointment is part of strengthening OJK’s institutional capacity in carrying out the mandate of the Law on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (UU P2SK).

“The country has very high hopes for the success of this mineral and strategic commodities exchange. We have heard many expectations from various parties, especially from the President, that this exchange will answer many things, particularly regarding transfer pricing and under-invoicing practices that greatly harm the Indonesian nation,” said Friderica, quoted from an official statement, Wednesday (19/8/2026).

Friderica further stated that Indonesia is one of the main producers of various minerals and strategic commodities, but has not yet obtained optimal benefits from this position, partly because price formation for a number of commodities has not taken place domestically. The existence of the BMKS is expected to strengthen trade governance while supporting more transparent price formation so that Indonesia can obtain more optimal added value.

OJK’s mandate in regulating and supervising the BMKS was also part of the President’s attention in his state address on 14 August 2026. According to Friderica, this demonstrates the country’s high expectations for OJK to ensure that the operation of the BMKS can deliver optimal results in accordance with the mandate given.

“Of course, we need to prepare from the outset, starting from POJK regulations, arrangements, to supervision, so that the presence of the BMKS can provide optimal results in accordance with the mandate given to OJK,” said Friderica.

The filling of the position of Deputy Commissioner for the Regulation and Supervision of the BMKS is one of OJK’s initial steps in preparing the regulatory, supervisory, and development framework for the BMKS ecosystem. This function is expected to ensure that the trading of minerals and strategic commodities is conducted in an orderly, transparent, and integrity-driven manner, while strengthening risk management and governance.

With institutional strengthening and a regulatory and supervisory framework prepared from the outset, OJK is committed to ensuring that the BMKS can develop as part of a credible mineral and strategic commodities trading ecosystem. The existence of the BMKS is expected not only to increase transparency and integrity of trade, but also to strengthen domestic price formation and optimise the added value of mineral resources and strategic commodities for the welfare of society, the nation, and the state.

Presidential Decision on the Mineral Exchange

President Prabowo Subianto announced the next stage of Indonesia’s single-door export policy. He stated that Indonesia will soon have a Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange.

“Today I announce the next stage of our single-door export policy. We have discussed with OJK that we want to immediately establish a Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange,” said President Prabowo during his speech at the DPR RI Plenary Session regarding the 2027 State Budget Bill and Financial Note at the Nusantara Building, DPR RI, Jakarta, Friday (14/8/2026).

Prabowo noted that for decades, Indonesia has been one of the world’s largest producers of palm oil, nickel, tin, coal, gold, coffee, rubber, and various other commodities. However, he continued, too often the prices of wealth extracted from the earth and the sweat of the Indonesian people are determined abroad, on foreign commodity exchanges, with benchmarks that we do not set ourselves.

“Those who do not have the commodities are the ones determining the price. This is unreasonable. I do not understand where this economic theory is taught. We own the goods, others determine the price. I ask the People’s Representatives, shall we continue this situation?” he said.

“Mothers work hard making batik, others determine the price. We must dare to change this situation. I ask for the support of the House of Representatives to change this,” he asserted, which was immediately met with thunderous applause and even a standing ovation from DPR RI members.

“And I say here, I am confident that you support me. If they do not want to pay the price we set, then they do not need to buy. It is better that the commodity, the nickel, the tin, the gold, all of it remains in the ground for our children and grandchildren. Our coal, our oil, our gas, let them remain in the ground,” he continued.

“But of course, we also understand market mechanisms; if the price is too high, that is unreasonable, but the important thing is that the exchange is on Indonesian soil,” he said.

“We will soon operationalise the Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange under OJK supervision. Our plan, if OJK works well and I am confident OJK works well, these are the mothers who now control our economy. Our plan, with the support of the DPR, is that on 1 January 2027 we will have our own Commodity Exchange,” he said.

“We target that the provisions for the operation of the Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange will be discussed immediately by the DPR RI and request that they be issued in the shortest possible time,” he said.

“I am grateful that there is now very synergistic cooperation between the government and the DPR,” he said.

“With this, we will build the Indonesia Reference Price for Indonesia’s main export commodities,” he asserted.

“We want to build a deep, transparent, liquid, and globally trusted market. Producers, farmers, exporters, buyers, and investors will meet in one supervised system, with clearer transaction data and increasingly narrow room for manipulation,” he explained.

“In the effort to build a credible exchange, OJK also…”
