OJK and West Java Provincial Government Develop Layer Chicken Ecosystem Through EGG Programme
The Financial Services Authority (Oereditas Jasa Keuangan - OJK), in collaboration with the West Java Provincial Government, continues to strengthen the regional economy through the Regional Economic Development (PED) Programme by expanding access to financing, strengthening business value chains, and opening market access for layer chicken farmers in West Java.
This development is realised through the EGG (Endog Jabar Go Global) Programme, themed “From Village to Global, Building an Extraordinary West Java Economy”. The programme establishes an integrated partnership ecosystem (closed loop) from upstream to downstream and serves as a follow-up to the PED development in West Java, which previously focused on sheep and dairy cattle commodities in 2024 and 2025.
OJK Executive Head of Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae, during her speech at the implementation event for the development of superior layer chicken commodities through financial inclusion services in West Java, emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration in developing regional economic potential. “Regional economic development requires synergy between the government, the financial services industry, the business world, the community, and other stakeholders. Through strong collaboration, the potential of West Java’s superior commodities can continue to be developed to drive regional economic growth,” said Dian.
The EGG Programme involves 4,565 layer chicken business actors, both individuals and corporations, particularly across 2 moving 21 layer chicken farming centres in West Java. The programme is projected to unlock approximately Rp456.5 billion in banking financing to support business development and increase farmers’ incomes.
Dian added that financing must be accompanied by other forms of support to deliver a real impact on business actors. “Financing needs to be accompanied by mentoring, financial literacy, market access, strengthening business institutions, the use of technology, and risk management to increase productivity and strengthen farmers’ businesses,” Dian stated.
West Java Provincial Secretary Herman Suryatman welcomed the collaboration between OJK and the West Java Provincial Government in developing the layer chicken commodity as part of strengthening the region’s productive economy. “We hope the development of the layer chicken commodity does not stop at ceremonial activities, but continues to be monitored and developed sustainably to increase economic growth and the welfare of farmers,” said Herman Suryatman.
The EGG Programme connects farmers with financing, production with markets, and business actors with off-takers. This approach is directed towards strengthening the value chain of the layer chicken commodity from upstream to downstream.
OJK West Java Head Darwisman explained that the closed-loop approach is a vital part of the EGG Programme’s implementation. “We have directed the EGG Programme to ensure that financial access goes hand-in-hand with market certainty, mentoring, and value chain strengthening. Thus, the productivity and business scale of farmers can continue to grow,” said Darswiman.
In addition to expanding access to financing, the EGG Programme connects layer chicken farmers with Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) to strengthen market certainty and support the provision of eggs for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Programme in West Java. This partnership is projected to generate budget efficiencies of approximately Rp4.23 trillion per year by providing eggs at prices roughly 10 to 15 per cent lower than market prices.
On the downstream side, OJK and the West Java Provincial Government are also opening opportunities for market expansion for layer chicken business actors, both outside West Java and to export markets. Based on data from the first half of 2026, the export value of fertilised eggs for incubation of fowl from West Java reached US$550.23 thousand, an increase of 513 per cent compared to the same period in 2025, with destination countries including Myanmar, Brunei Darussalam, and Malaysia.
Downstream development is also directed towards processing eggs into value-added products, including egg powder, breakfast products, eggshell-based fertiliser, and pet nutrition. This product diversification can expand markets while reducing the potential for losses for farmers due to the relatively short shelf life of chicken eggs.
As part of the EGG Programme implementation, OJK, the West Java Provincial Government, the financial services industry, farmers, exporters, and relevant stakeholders strengthened their commitment to developing the layer chicken ecosystem through several agendas, including the inauguration of day-old chick (DOC) exports from one of West Java’s exporters, PT Intama Taat Anugerah, to Timor-Leste, as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the Development of Layer Chicken Farmers in West Java.
The event was also attended by Member of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the West Java V constituency, Mulyadi; Chairman of the West Java Provincial DPRD, Buky Wibawa Karya Guna; leaders of vertical agencies in West Java; leaders of the financial services industry in West Java; and 150 farmer representatives.
Through the EGG Programme, OJK and the West Java Provincial Government continue to strengthen the synergy between the financial services sector and the real sector in developing regional superior commodities. The development of an ecosystem that integrates financing, production, mentoring, and market access is aimed at increasing productivity and farmers’ income while creating greater added value for the West Java economy.
