OJK and Ministry of MSMEs Form Financing Task Force to Boost Small Business Growth
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have agreed to form a task force, or working group, to broaden funding and financing access for MSMEs through the financial services sector. The move aims to boost MSME performance as a driver of the national economy.
Speaking at the UMKM Finance Summit 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday, OJK Board of Commissioners Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi said the working group would serve as a follow-up to cooperation between the OJK and the Ministry of MSMEs to integrate various MSME development programmes with the financial services sector.
“We are creating a task force, teamwork, or working group that will jointly work on how MSMEs can advance. One way is through funding and financing from the financial services sector, as well as how MSMEs can move up the ladder and increasingly become the main engine of Indonesia’s economy,” Friderica said, as quoted from an official statement on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
The formation of the working group is part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of MSMEs and the OJK, signed to accelerate financing access for MSMEs across Indonesia.
MSMEs Minister Maman Abdurrahman said that expanding financing access must be accompanied by strengthening market access so that the additional capital received by MSMEs can drive business growth.
According to Maman, financing provided without market support risks failing to produce optimal business growth because the products made by MSMEs may not necessarily be absorbed.
“When we want to encourage the growth of financing access to the MSME sector, this must also be balanced with securing the market. Do not let us provide financing, and MSMEs can produce goods well, but when the goods are to be sold, there is no market to absorb them,” Maman said.
He said the Ministry of MSMEs would prepare policies to strengthen market access while coordinating with stakeholders so that financing received by MSMEs can be used productively and support business sustainability.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR) Hanif Dhakiri, whose commission oversees financial affairs, national development planning, monetary matters, and the financial services sector, assessed that expanding MSME financing also requires a paradigm shift in the national financial system.
