PT Bank Ganesha Tbk. (BGTG) has responded to the Financial Services Authority’s (OJK) recommendation for banks in the KBMI 1 category—those with core capital between Rp3 trillion and Rp6 trillion—to upgrade their classification. As a member of this group, Bank Ganesha is currently navigating the regulatory landscape regarding capital expansion.

Speaking at the Perbanas Institute on Tuesday, Bank Ganesha Commissioner Lisawati stated that the bank is committed to meeting all regulatory requirements, though she deferred specific implementation details to the bank’s Chief Executive Officer. While no specific target date has been set for the transition to KBMI 2, the bank’s Q1 2026 financial reports show core capital standing at Rp3.64 trillion.

Bank Ganesha has recently undergone management restructuring, appointing Trisna Chandra and Shirley as directors, and Faisal Dharma Setiawan as an independent commissioner, following the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS) held on 26 May 2026. The meeting also decided to forgo dividend payments this year, opting instead to allocate the 2025 net profit of Rp227.09 billion towards mandatory reserves and retained earnings to bolster the company’s capital.

Separately, OJK Executive Head of Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae, stated that strengthening KBMI 1 banks is a strategic agenda aimed at enhancing the resilience of the national banking sector and supporting sustainable economic growth. This initiative is deemed crucial given the rapid development of information technology, accelerated banking digitalisation, global economic uncertainty, and the rising risk of cyberattacks.

OJK believes that KBMI 1 banks still have the capacity to strengthen their capital and expand their business scale through both organic and inorganic growth. The regulator previously issued an appeal for fundamental strengthening and consolidation to small-scale banks in late October 2025. OJK has urged KBMI 1 banks to conduct thorough evaluations of their business performance, capital, asset quality, and long-term prospects, including identifying opportunities for mergers, provided that controlling shareholders possess the necessary vision for such consolidations.
