The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has affirmed that venture capital companies which have obtained licences and are registered fall within the OJK’s supervisory domain.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Directorate of Venture Capital Company and Special Financial Institution Supervision at OJK, Aulia Fadly, during a talk show themed “Time to Strengthen Venture Capital” at the PWI Central Office in Jakarta.

He said that supervision serves as one of the instruments for addressing various issues that arise in the venture capital industry.

“Those that are legal, that already have licences and are registered, are our domain for conducting reviews and supervision,” Aulia said in his statement on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.

According to him, supervision of venture capital companies has been carried out from the initial stage, through fit and proper tests of prospective principal parties.

OJK conducts document examinations, interviews, and background checks to assess the integrity and competence of management and controlling shareholders.

Aulia said that regulations and mitigation mechanisms have been prepared to prevent irregularities. However, irregularities committed by individuals remain a challenge in supervision.

“If we have already made the regulations, we have already made the mitigation steps, but there are irregularities along the way caused by individuals, this is indeed a challenge for all of us,” he said.

Meanwhile, macro-economic policy expert and Lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Social Innovation at Atma Jaya University Jakarta, YB Suhartoko, assessed that supervision needs to be strengthened not only of venture capital companies (PMV) but also of investee companies (PPU).

According to him, the position of PPU can become weaker when dealing with venture capital companies that have greater capital strength.

“So even though the PMV has always disclosed its risks, our PPU are in a weak position here, so I think the OJK’s support for PPU must be stronger,” Suhartoko said.

“Strengthening support is important to ensure that companies receiving investment have adequate protection in their relationship with investors,” he said.

On the OJK website, it is stated regarding the supervision of the PVML sector that supervision includes direct and indirect supervision, examinations, follow-up on examination results, as well as the determination of intensive and special supervisory status.
