'Ojek' drivers kill employee

JAKARTA (JP): An employee of a private electricity installation company was beaten to death by ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers on Wednesday evening.

Andri, 28, a resident of Jl. Jaha 12, Kalisari, East Jakarta, was reportedly on his way home by ojek on Wednesday night, when he and his driver were stopped by two other ojek drivers because they had been driving too fast.

The other ojek drivers had warned Andri's driver, Nehar, to slow down, but to no avail, according to reports. Andri and Nehar then became involved in a heated quarrel with the other ojek drivers, police said.

Other local ojek drivers then congregated at the scene and mobbed Andri and Nehar, killing Andri, according to police.

Police soon arrested the six men involved, who they have identified only as AM, KHS, Mar, Muk, NR and MA. (05)
