'Ojek' driver robbed, killed

JAKARTA (JP): An ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver was believed to be the victim of a robbery after he was found dead Friday morning in Cibitung, Bekasi, police said.

The victim, Nemon bin Sirin, 54, was found by residents of Pasir Limus village, Wangunharja about 6 a.m., First Lt. Heri Muntiarto of Cibitung Police subprecinct said.

"A blunt object was apparently used to beat Nemon, but we are still searching for it."

Nemon, a resident of Tangsi village, Sukadanau, was found on the side of the road with severe wounds to his forehead and right cheek, Heri said.

Police believe robbery was the motive behind the fatal attack as the victim's motorcycle was missing from the crime scene.

"Initially, residents just thought the victim was a sleeping drunkard and only realized that he was dead after a resident smelled a putrid odor oozing from his wounds."

Nemon's body was sent to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta for a postmortem examination. (emf)
