An oil tanker collided with a pickup truck transporting community service programme (KKN) students on the Batulicin-Banjarbaru Alternative Road in Gunung Raya Village, Mantewe District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan. The accident resulted in seven fatalities.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 12:00 WITA today. Mantewe Police Chief, AKP Kusnin, stated that the accident began when the tanker, driven by an individual identified by the initials MI, lost control while travelling from Banjarbaru towards Batulicin. The tanker subsequently struck the pickup truck, which was carrying students to a tourist destination.

The collision was unavoidable. Out of the eight victims, seven passed away, while one survivor was referred to Marina Hospital in Tanah Bumbu Regency. The deceased include the tanker driver, MI, and several students from Lambung Mangkurat University, namely MR (20) and ACG (21), as well as students from Nahdatul Ulama University (UNU) South Kalimantan, including NIJ (22), NAS (21), and VAS (22), along with a youth organisation member, TMA (21).

“It is true that seven people died due to a traffic accident on the bypass road in Gunung Raya Village, Mantewe,” said Kusnin on Saturday (1/8/2026) afternoon. “There were eight victims in total; seven died, including the truck driver, and one survivor, a student from Lambung Mangkurat University with the initials MFH.”

It was reported that the students were travelling to Sungai Alut, Gunung Raya Village, for a holiday. The pickup truck involved in the accident belongs to the Batulicin Irrigation Village.
