Doha (ANTARA) - A fuel oil tanker named Aqua 1, chartered by QatarEnergy, was bombarded in Qatari waters, but there were no injuries and no environmental damage, the company stated to RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

“QatarEnergy confirms that the Aqua 1 tanker, a fuel oil carrier chartered by QatarEnergy, was attacked by a missile in the northern territorial waters of the State of Qatar on Wednesday, 1 April, in the early hours,” the statement said.

However, none of the crew members on board were injured, and the incident caused no environmental damage, the company said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Qatar’s Ministry of Defence stated that one missile fired from Iran had struck an oil tanker in Qatari territorial waters. More than 20 crew members of the ill-fated vessel had been evacuated.

“Qatar’s Ministry of Defence announces that the State of Qatar was targeted today, Wednesday, by (3) cruise missiles launched from Iran,” the ministry wrote on X.

“Our armed forces, by the grace of God, succeeded in intercepting two cruise missiles, while the third missile struck an oil tanker chartered by QatarEnergy in Qatari territorial waters.”

“A number of procedures have been implemented, and coordination has been established with relevant authorities for efforts to evacuate the tanker, which carried 21 crew members, without any loss of life,” the ministry said.
