The Secretariat General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday strongly condemned the decision of the Republic of Nauru to open an embassy with the Israeli occupation authorities in occupied Jerusalem. The OIC considers the step a violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, as well as undermining international efforts aimed at achieving peace based on the two-state solution. The Secretary-General reaffirmed his rejection of the illegal decision, considering it a flagrant violation of UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 476 (1980) and 478 (1980). These resolutions affirm the nullification of all Israeli actions aimed at altering the character, legal status, and demographic composition of the City of Jerusalem. The OIC called on nations not to establish diplomatic missions in Jerusalem and to withdraw any existing missions from the city. It further urged the Government of the Republic of Nauru to cancel its decision and to abide by its responsibilities under the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions. The Republic of Nauru was also urged to support international efforts aimed at ending the occupation and achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
