Jeddah, Saudi Arabia - The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the opening of an embassy by the entity referred to as ‘Somaliland’ in occupied Jerusalem. The OIC described the move as illegal and a blatant violation of the UN Charter and relevant resolutions. The organisation reiterated that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem. According to the OIC, all decisions and actions aimed at altering the political, legal, or demographic status of Jerusalem are null and void under international law. The OIC also reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Federal Republic of Somalia and its steadfast support for the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Furthermore, the organisation urged the international community to take a firm stance against this illegal step and to undertake efforts to oppose it. Somaliland is a region in the Horn of Africa that declared independence from Somalia in 1991. To date, the territory has not been recognised as a sovereign state by the majority of UN members, including Indonesia.
