OIC Condemns Israeli Assault on Jerusalem Refugee Camp
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned Israel’s assault on the Qalandiya refugee camp, located north of occupied Jerusalem. In a statement released on Thursday, the OIC said the attack occurred amid reports warning of a potential expansion of Israeli aggression against other refugee camps in the West Bank. It stressed that the assault on Qalandiya constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and relevant United Nations resolutions. The OIC warned of the gravity of the escalation, stating that the action is part of a systematic Israeli plan aimed at dismantling and destroying refugee camps in the West Bank, devastating the Gaza Strip, and targeting the existence of the institutions, facilities, and staff of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). According to the OIC, these measures are part of an effort to liquidate the refugee issue and undermine its legal, political, and humanitarian foundations. The OIC once again urged the international community to take immediate action to pressure Israel to halt its attacks and siege on the Qalandiya camp and all Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank. The international community was also called upon to support UNRWA and protect the rights of refugees, including the right to return to their homes, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions, particularly Resolution 194.
