Officials tear down illegal banners

BEKASI: Bekasi administration officials embarked on Monday on a drive to clean the city of the thousands of unlicensed banners along most major roads.

They said they were abiding by Bylaw No. 44/1998 on public order, according to the head of the community policing unit, Hudoyo S. Putro.

Around 100 officers were out in force to take down the banners from trees and electricity poles along Jl. Hasibuan, Jl. Ahmad Yani, Jl. Juanda and Jl. Sudirman.

"These banners were put up without the administration's approval, they could cause traffic accidents if motorists try to read them," Hudoyo said. -- Antara
