Officials summoned on land issue

JAKARTA: A number of state officials ranging from ministers to military officers will appear before the House of Representatives (DPR) to clarify their involvement in a land dispute.

The officials are to appear at the request of the House Special Committee of inquiry on agrarian matters.

Committee chairman I Nyoman Gunawan said on Thursday that his team would first hear State Minister of State Enterprises Laksamana Sukardi, Minister of Finance Boediono and chairman of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) Syafruddin Temenggung.

Gunawan of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) said the IBRA chairman was being questioned because the agency manages state assets, including property.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ryamizard Ryacudu, Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Bernard Kent Sondakh and Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Chappy Hakim are included on the list of military officers summoned, but Gunawan provided no details on the grounds for their summons. -- JP
