Officials Are Still Investigating the Green Signal That Went Green Before Argo Bromo Anggrek Crashed Into a Commuter Train

The Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi has spoken about the green signal received by KA Argo Bromo Anggrek before it collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station.

Dudy said the authorities have handed over the entire investigation into the signalling to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT). He added that KNKT is still probing the granting of the green signal.

‘It is still ongoing, still ongoing. Because there are several aspects that are still being investigated,’ he told reporters at PTIK, South Jakarta, on Friday (22/5).

Therefore, Dudy said he could not comment on allegations of operator errors in providing signal information since that falls within KNKT’s investigative remit. ‘We hand it over to KNKT for the results and the investigation. Also because there were fatalities, the police have also conducted investigations, we also hand it over to the police,’ he concluded.

Earlier, KNKT head Soerjanto Tjahjono explained that initially, at 20:33 WIB, train 5568 Commuter Line entered and stopped on track 6 at Bekasi Station. Then, from 20:34 to 20:38, train Sawunggalih entered and stopped on track 3 at Bekasi Station for boarding and alighting of passengers. ‘Next, train 116 (Sawunggalih) departed Bekasi Station via track 3 heading east,’ Soerjanto told a meeting with Commission V of the DPR on Thursday (21/5).

Then at 20:45, train 5568 departed Bekasi Station toward Bekasi Timur Station. Then at 20:48, train 5568 entered and stopped at Bekasi Timur Station on track 1. On a different track, a collision occurred between another Commuter train and a motor vehicle. ‘At 20:48:29 the collision occurred between train 5181 Commuter Line and a four-wheeled motor vehicle at Bekasi Timur downstream track,’ he said.

After passenger embarkation/disembarkation, train 5568 moved a short distance of about 1.69 metres. The train stopped because the driver saw a crowd on the upstream track. Behind it, around 20:50:43, Bromo Anggrek proceeded directly on track 3 of Bekasi Station with the signal at J12, green or green-coloured.
