Jakarta (ANTARA) - Officials of the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Gulkarmat Service have recovered the body of a teenager identified as HDS (10) who drowned while swimming in a canal on Jalan Pesanggrahan II, Pademangan Timur Urban Village, Pademangan District, on Sunday afternoon. ‘The victim was found by officers in a deceased condition,’ said Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations (Kasiops) of the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Gulkarmat Service. He explained that, according to witnesses, the victim was swimming in the canal with friends when he was swept away by the current and disappeared to the bottom of the canal. ‘When his friends realised he was missing, they asked residents for help, and residents contacted Gulkarmat,’ he said. He added that authorities received information about the drowning at 17:14 WIB and the team immediately proceeded to the scene. Two rescue units with six personnel were deployed. Gulkarmat personnel arrived at the location and began searching at 17:29 WIB using a rubber boat. Local residents also assisted in the search. After nearly half an hour of searching, the victim was eventually located by the officers. ‘Praise be to God, the search for the victim has been completed and the body has been found and taken to hospital for further processing,’ he said.
