Officials Prune Trees and Install Lights in Cawang City Park Amid Alleged Indecent Activity
Officials from the Sub-Office of Parks and Forest Management of East Jakarta (Jaktim) have carried out pruning of overgrown trees at Cawang City Park following indications of improper same-sex activities at the location.
“Tree pruning by the sub-office team and pruning of dense foliage by the East Jakarta Forest City team,” explained Iwan Sulaiman, forest management supervisor at the Sub-Office of Parks and Forest Management of East Jakarta, when met at the site on Saturday (28/2/2026).
Iwan stated that this measure is part of a rapid response initiative following the discovery of suspected indecent activities. Additionally, Cawang City Park has been fitted with floodlights to illuminate the area more brightly.
“There are two points in this city forest where floodlights have been installed by the Kebon Pala Sub-district Office to light up Cawang City Forest so that no unauthorised individuals enter the City Forest,” he explained.
Detik.com conducted coverage at Cawang City Park in East Jakarta on Saturday (28/2), which is suspected to be a site of improper activity. Within the park, detik.com found numerous items allegedly linked to the suspected activities.
A package of contraceptives was initially discovered near a large tree within the park. Subsequently, used lubricant gel packages and various Magic tissue wrappers were also found. Additionally, used condoms mixed with twigs, branches and scattered leaves were discovered. In gaps between broken tree trunks, two bottles of alcohol with open tops were also found. Finally, packaging of drinks or sexual stimulant supplements was discovered. All these items were scattered throughout Cawang City Park, which is suspected to be a site of same-sex improper activity.
Previously, it was reported that access to the City Park in the Cawang, Kebon Pala, Makasar area of East Jakarta was closed due to suspected use for same-sex prostitution. Two access points were permanently sealed.
The closure was carried out by the East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot) in a coordinated manner with cross-sectoral agencies, involving the Sub-Office of Parks and Forest Management. Additionally, sub-district officials and representatives of the three-pillar community structure, consisting of military and civil police liaisons from Kebon Pala Sub-district, were also involved.
“There are two access points that we attempted to permanently seal today through concrete work, in cooperation with the Sub-Office of Parks and Forest Management,” stated Makasar Sub-district Head Dimas Prayudi at Cawang City Park, East Jakarta, according to Antara news agency on Friday (27/2).
Dimas revealed information about misuse of the park’s function. He noted that joint officers discovered gaps in the fence that were frequently used by residents to gain unauthorised access to the park area.
