Officials discover unroadworthy AKAP bus at Tanjung Priok Terminal
Jakarta — Officers from the Motor Vehicle Testing Management Unit (UP PKB) Cilincing discovered an unroadworthy inter-city and inter-provincial (AKAP) bus carrying passengers during the Eid al-Fitr exodus period in 1447 Hijriah.
“Today five AKAP buses underwent ramp checks, with four buses declared roadworthy and one found unroadworthy,” said Sandi, Head of Tanjung Priok Bus Terminal in North Jakarta, on Thursday.
He stated that vehicles declared roadworthy would be issued a sticker confirming they had passed inspection by officials and were approved for use as Eid exodus transport.
“However, those found unroadworthy will be reported to the bus company, and we will request that they send a more suitable fleet,” he said.
Sandi said the unroadworthy bus identified by officials was a PO Harianto bus scheduled to depart Jakarta for Madura.
“This vehicle has a cracked front windscreen and must be repaired,” he said.
Earlier, Sandi confirmed safety measures for transport services, ensuring all inter-city and inter-provincial (AKAP) buses entering the terminal undergo inspection of both the vehicle and the drivers who will transport passengers during the 2026 Eid exodus.
“We have been conducting roadworthiness checks (ramp checks) on buses scheduled to depart for two days through the Motor Vehicle Testing Service Unit (UP PKB),” he said.
The terminal operator has also prepared supporting facilities to manage the exodus period. Sandi urged the public travelling for Eid to pay attention to safety aspects during their journey. Travellers should ensure their homes are secure before leaving and should avoid wearing conspicuous jewellery while travelling.
