Officials continue to discover unroadworthy buses at Tanjung Priok Terminal
Jakarta – Officials from the Motor Vehicle Testing Management Unit (UP PKB) continue to discover inter-city, inter-provincial buses (AKAP) that are unroadworthy at Tanjung Priok Terminal in North Jakarta on Friday.
“Today we conducted inspections of buses operating to transport passengers travelling home for the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday break,” said Sandi, Head of Tanjung Priok Bus Terminal, in Jakarta.
According to him, five buses underwent spot-check inspections or “ramp checks” conducted by UP PKB Cilincing on the day.
Of the five buses inspected, three were declared roadworthy and issued stickers indicating that these holiday transport vehicles had passed inspection and were ready to operate as official Eid 2026 transport services.
One bus operated by PO Agramas, departing from Jakarta to Pacitan, was found to lack a portable fire extinguisher and had malfunctioning emergency doors.
“These findings are then forwarded to the bus company to replace the vehicle with a roadworthy one or to undertake repairs,” he said.
Previously, Sandi had assured that all AKAP buses entering Tanjung Priok Terminal undergo inspection. In addition to vehicle condition checks, the health status of drivers who will transport passengers during the 2026 holiday exodus is also assessed.
Travellers are advised to ensure their homes are in a secure condition before departure and to avoid wearing conspicuous jewellery whilst travelling.
“We hope that through inspections of vehicle conditions and facility readiness, the holiday travel flow at Tanjung Priok Terminal can proceed safely, in an orderly manner and comfortably for the public,” he said.
Furthermore, the terminal has established a health post in cooperation with community health centres and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). “This includes health checks and urine tests for drivers,” he added.
