Cianjur (ANTARA) - Combined teams from Cidaun Subdistrict, Cianjur Regency, West Java, along with residents of Cibuluh Village, Cidaun Subdistrict, are working to reopen inter-village roads buried by landslides on Friday-Saturday (27-28/3) to restore community activities.

Cidaun Subdistrict Head Gagan Rusganda, when contacted on Sunday, said that extreme weather affecting much of Cianjur over the past two days caused natural disasters in the form of landslides at 17 points in Cibuluh Village, Cidaun Subdistrict, where most blocked inter-village roads and rice fields.

There were no fatalities in the incidents that occurred on Friday and Saturday, but the main inter-village road, totalling 750 metres in length across 14 points, was cut off due to being buried by landslides, making it impassable for vehicles and hindering activities of residents from several villages.

“Landslides at more than a dozen points occurred in Cibuluh Village, Cidaun Subdistrict, covering road bases and residents’ rice field areas, while in other villages, data collection is still ongoing because the travel distance, which is difficult for vehicles to access, requires considerable time,” he said.

Residents, together with combined teams consisting of subdistrict and village officials, TNI/Polri, and volunteers, are attempting to remove landslide materials blocking the road base in the hope that vehicles can pass through and activities can return to normal.

His side has reported the matter to the Cianjur Regency Government through the Cianjur BPBD, hoping for quick handling, especially on the inter-village roads that are cut off, so that they can be passable by vehicles.

This includes reporting road damage to the relevant department in the Cianjur Regency Government, so that repairs and thorough handling can be carried out, ensuring that follow-up landslides do not block the road base.

Even up to now, his side is still conducting data collection while waiting for officers from the Cianjur BPBD, where preliminary data on natural disasters due to extreme weather has cut off inter-village roads and buried around 8 hectares of rice fields with landslides.

“We ask residents in the area to increase readiness and alertness, as well as to be observant in reading natural signs and to evacuate immediately if heavy rain with high intensity falls again,” he said.
