Officially Inaugurated as National Police Chief, Suyudi: We Will Ensure Fair Law Enforcement

President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subington, officially inaugurated Suyudi Ario Seto as the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri) at the Merdeka Palace on Thursday (1/10/2026). During the occasion, Suyudi pledged to prioritise fair law enforcement and improve public services.

Furthermore, Suyudi intends to foster closer ties with the public in accordance with his outlined work programme, titled ‘Police with the Community’.

“Naturally, we will prioritise efforts to enhance public services, ensure fair law enforcement, and strive to be closer to the community as part of our work programme, which is ‘Police with the Community’,” said Suyudi.

He emphasised that the police must inherently remain close to the people, so that they can provide rapid and responsive answers to the community’s needs.

“In essence, the police must always be close to the community, be present amongst them, and be able to provide quick responses within the framework of public order and security,” he added.

On the other hand, Suyudi expressed his appreciation to Listyo Sigit for the guidance provided throughout his career. He noted that much had been learned from the previous leadership, which would serve as essential preparation for his duties as Chief of Police.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the guidance and the many lessons provided for our careers,” Suyudi stated.

As the new Chief of Police, Suyudi stated that his initial step would be internal consolidation. This process is necessary to review various programmes and measures implemented by his predecessor.

Suyudi mentioned that policies deemed effective and still relevant would be reviewed for continuation, while areas identified as needing improvement would undergo evaluation.

“As the new Chief of Police, I will conduct internal consolidation. We will review the steps taken by the previous leadership to see which can be followed up and continued, and which require improvement,” said Suyudi.
