Officially Appointed BGN Head, Sudaryono: I Don't Own Any MBG Kitchens
President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Sudaryono as the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. Sudaryono, formerly the deputy minister of agriculture, officially replaced Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, who had only served for 45 days at the institution responsible for the free nutritious meal (MBG) programme. His appointment was based on Presidential Decree Number 78/P of 2026 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of the Head of BGN.
Following his inauguration, Sudaryono asserted that he has no personal interest in the nutritious meal programme. He stated that he does not own any public kitchens or nutritional fulfilment service units (SPPG) that receive incentives from the government to provide MBG to schools. “None, I don’t have an SPPG. I don’t have a kitchen. None of my family members own a kitchen,” he said.
Sudaryono acknowledged that problems remain in the implementation of the MBG. One of these is evident in the alleged corruption case implicating Dadan Hindayana, the former head of BGN, and several other former senior officials of the nutrition agency. “We ourselves have witnessed that there have been violations in terms of governance that were not transparent,” he stated.
Sudaryono said his new task of running the MBG is not easy. “This is a heavy task, the budget is large, grande, across all of Indonesia,” said the Gerindra Party politician. He also announced that he would resign from his previous position at the Ministry of Agriculture after becoming Head of BGN, confirming he will not hold concurrent positions outside the nutrition agency.
Nanik Sudaryati Deyang announced her resignation from the BGN via Facebook on Wednesday this week. She cited her desire to focus on heart treatment as the reason for her departure. Nanik expressed gratitude for having assisted President Prabowo with the free nutritious meal programme after being his supporter for over a decade. “Having followed him for fourteen years, I know for certain that the MBG programme is not for political purposes as some have accused,” she wrote on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.
Like Nanik, Sudaryono is also known as someone who has long been in Prabowo’s inner circle. Sudaryono is known as Prabowo’s former personal assistant before serving in the Gerindra Party and in government. In addition to his cabinet role, Sudaryono holds a position outside the government as the General Chairman of the Indonesian Farmers’ Harmony Association (HKTI) for the 2025–2030 period, a position once held by Prabowo.
