Officially Appointed as Cisem II Operator, Pertagas Prepares to Distribute Natural Gas to Support National Energy Resilience
PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), a subsidiary of the Gas Subholding of PT Pertamina (Persero), has been appointed as the operator of the Batang-Cirebon-Kandang Haur Timur Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline (Cisem II) since April 2026, after winning the partner selection tender conducted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through LEMIGAS. This pipeline forms part of the Cirebon-Semarang Transmission Pipeline (Cisem), where the previous phase, Semarang-Batang (Cisem I), has already been constructed and is operational.
Pertagas President Director Indra P Sembiring stated that Pertagas has experience as the operator of the Cisem I Pipeline since 2023. Therefore, the company is confident that its competencies and experience demonstrate readiness to operate the entire pipeline network in distributing gas to various national natural gas user sectors.
“The availability of integrated and reliable gas infrastructure is key to accelerating the national energy transition with natural gas. The energy delivered through the Cisem pipeline will meet the needs of industry and other sectors for clean energy, while also adding value to the upstream oil and gas sector, and most importantly, supporting economic growth in Indonesia,” said Indra.
The Cisem II Pipeline, added Indra, is a Strategic National Project (PSN) that integrates natural gas pipeline infrastructure in Indonesia. The existence of natural gas well locations differing from the main gas user markets is now connected through the Cirebon-Semarang Transmission Pipeline and the Gresik-Semarang Transmission Pipeline.
“Thus, the Cisem II Pipeline, spanning approximately 242 km, becomes a game changer because it connects with Pertagas’s existing infrastructure in West Java, Central Java, and East Java, thereby strengthening the reliability of energy infrastructure distribution on the island of Java,” added Indra.
Pertagas Director of Technical & Operations, Agung Indri Pramantyo, added that the Cisem II Pipeline network is now integrated with the Cisem I Pipeline section in the Batang Industrial Area (KITB) in Central Java, operated by Pertagas, and the Kandang Haur Timur Station (KHT), part of Pertagas’s Operation West Java Area.
“This integration forms an integrated pipeline network system and provides operational flexibility and reliability of natural gas infrastructure, especially those we operate,” said Agung.
He added that the integration of Cisem II with the national natural gas transmission infrastructure within the Gas Subholding not only strengthens energy supplies for strategic sectors such as refineries, fertiliser plants, and power plants, but also supports the government’s programme in developing gas for households and SMEs along the pipeline route. This effort is expected to expand energy access and strengthen national energy resilience.
As an energy infrastructure company, Pertagas continues to play an active role in supporting the national natural gas transmission infrastructure integration programme to boost domestic industry growth and drive national economic growth.
Pertagas is committed to continuously strengthening the optimisation of natural gas use as a clean and reliable energy source in Indonesia’s energy transition. Pertagas also supports the President’s Asta Cita targets, namely realising energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia.
