JAKARTA - An official vehicle with a red plate was parked on the pavement right in front of the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP) DKI Jakarta office in Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta. A video uploaded by the Instagram account @ijoeel shows a black Isuzu Panther Pikap with licence plate B 9100QU parked, occupying the pavement that should be reserved for pedestrians. The video’s recorder, Ijoel, approached the Satpol PP officers on guard at the front gate of the building to inquire about the owner of the vehicle. “Brother, whose car is this red-plated pickup? Just move it, don’t park it there. I’ll lock it up,” he said in the video. From a distance, he had already spotted the vehicle parked on the pavement. When questioned and reported, he received a response that they did not know whose vehicle it was, Ijoel stated on Wednesday. According to him, the officers’ response seemed less than prompt, even though the violation occurred right in front of the office of the agency responsible for enforcing regional regulations. “The point is, there is a violation in front of the office of the institution tasked with implementing and ensuring regulations are applied,” he continued. Shortly afterwards, one of the officers called a colleague from inside the office. The arriving officer then explained that the parking area inside the office was full due to an ongoing meeting activity, so the vehicle had to be parked outside. Nevertheless, Ijoel assessed that this reason could not justify the misuse of the pavement. “Especially since this is in front of the central office of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta, which should respond well to the public and set a good example from its own environment,” Ijoel remarked. In response to the matter, the Head of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta, Satriadi Gunawan, conveyed an apology to the public over the incident.
