Pink KTP vs Blue KTP

According to Indonesiabaik, the pink KTP is a child identity card (KIA). Its function is as an official identity for children under the age of 17. KIA itself comes in two types, namely for children aged 0-5 and for children aged 5-17.

For blue KTP, it functions as the official identity of citizens from the age of 17. This KTP or e-KTP is valid from the owner’s 17th birthday until the end of life.

Thus, pink and blue KTP are both national identities. The difference is that pink KTP is the KIA for citizens under 17. When they reach 17, they will switch to the blue (e-KTP).

Meaning of NIK KTP

According to Article 1 paragraph (12) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 23 of 2006 on Population Administration, the National Identification Number (NIK) is a unique or distinctive, singular identity number that is attached to a person registered as a resident of Indonesia.

In Article 13 of Law No. 23 of 2006, it states that the NIK, which is lifelong and perpetual, is provided by the Government and issued by the Implementing Agency to every resident after biodata has been recorded.

As we know, the NIK consists of a 16-digit code, for example 1234567890123456. According to information from Dukcapil Jakarta, here is the meaning of the 16-digit NIK:

NIK KTP: 1234567890123456

  • 12: Province code

  • 34: Regency/City code

  • 56: District code

  • 789012: Birth date, Birth month, Birth year

  • 3456: Serial number (serial number for the same birth date within a district)

Here are a few things to note about the NIK digits:

  • Birth date. Written with two digits, for example birth date 1 is written as 01. For females, the birth date is increased by 40; for example birth date 2 is written as 42, birth date 18 is written as 58.

  • Birth month is written with two digits.

  • Birth year is written using the last two digits of the birth year.
