Official School Basic Competency Test to Commence on 22 September; Passing Grades Announced
The Basic Competency Test (SKD) for the 2026 intake of official schools (Sekolah Kedinasan) will commence on 22 September 2026. Ahead of the examination, the government has established the mandatory passing grades that participants must achieve to proceed to the subsequent stages of the selection process.
According to the Decree of the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Number 406 of 2026, the passing grade for the National Insight Test (TWK) is set at 65, the General Intelligence Test (TIU) at 80, and the Personal Characteristics Test (TKP) at 156.
In total, the maximum cumulative score for the SKD reaches 550 points, comprising a maximum of 150 points for TWK, 175 points for TIU, and 225 points for TKP.
However, these passing grade requirements do not apply to participants from specific regions who receive affirmative action. Affirmative policies are granted based on proposals from the ministries or agencies organising the official schools.
During the SKD, participants will complete a total of 110 questions within 100 minutes. The breakdown consists of 30 TWK questions, 35 TIU questions, and 45 TKP questions.
For the TWK and TIU sections, each correct answer earns 5 points, while incorrect or unanswered questions receive 0 points. For the TKP, the score for each answer choice ranges from 1 to 5, with 0 points awarded for unanswered questions. The registration phase for the 2026 official schools closed at the end of August.
The Minister of PANRB, Rini Widyantini, has reminded all participants to prepare thoroughly and cautioned against believing parties that promise guaranteed passing in exchange for money.
This year’s SKD will continue to utilise the Computer Assisted Test (CAT) system managed by the National Civil Service Agency (BKN).
“There will be no loopholes for those attempting to cheat,” Rini stated firmly in her announcement, as quoted on Sunday (20/09/2026).
Rini emphasised that all participants must undergo the selection process honestly and rely on their own abilities. She noted that the examination material is designed to measure knowledge, thinking skills, character, and the participants’ understanding of national values.
Through these test results, the government can assess participants’ abilities in aspects such as nationalism, analysis, syllogism, adaptability, and understanding of anti-radicalism.
“Be professional, ethical participants who are ready to provide the best service to the public,” Rini added.
The government is providing 4,770 civil servant (CPNS) positions through the official school pathway this year. These formations are offered by nine agencies overseeing the official schools.
Following the SKD, each agency will announce the selection results between September and October 2026. Subsequent selection stages will be regulated by the respective organisers of the official schools.
