Official: Sarmuji Appointed Minister of Industry, Replacing Agus Gumiwang

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Secretary General of the Golkar Party, M Sarmuji, has been officially inaugurated as the Minister of Industry by President Prabiente at the Palace on Thursday (1/10/2026). Sarmuji replaces Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.

“Muhammad Sarmuji as Minister of Industry,” stated Nanik Purwanti, Deputy for Apparatus Administration at the State Secretariat, while reading the inauguration announcement.

Upon arriving at the Palace, Sarmuji admitted that he received confirmation regarding his position earlier this morning. He noted that if he were to be appointed Minister of Industry, he would be replacing Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.

Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita was previously inaugurated as Minister of Social Affairs on 24 August 2018 and was re-appointed as Minister of Industry in both the Indonesia Maju Cabinet (2019-2024) and the Merah Putih Cabinet (2024-2029).

In 2018, Agus was also inaugurated by President Joko Widodo at the State Palace, Jakarta, to replace Idrus Marham.
