The Palmerah sub-district in West Jakarta has raised the clause regarding sanctions involving the revocation of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) for two vocational school (SMK) students responsible for a slashing in the Palmerah area. The sanctions will be applied in accordance with regulations and the results of the police investigation. “In accordance with existing regulations, there is indeed a clause concerning the withholding of local government assistance programmes related to schooling in connection with unjustifiable behaviour by students receiving KJP,” said Palmerah Sub-district Head Febriandi Suharto in Jakarta on Wednesday. Febriandi explained that the administrative sanction, in the form of revoking the education assistance, would later be recommended directly by the schools of the two perpetrators. However, this recommendation can only be issued after the official examination results are received from law enforcement officials. “But of course, it is according to the applicable rules. The recommendation will later come from the school based on the results of the investigation carried out by our colleagues from the Police,” he said. Aside from highlighting the KJP revocation sanction, Febriandi revealed that this violent incident occurred amidst a period of reduced teaching and learning activities ahead of the school holidays. According to him, the large amount of unstructured free time for students is one of the factors that must be anticipated. “The idle time of our children, our younger siblings, is what we need to anticipate together so that we can prevent. Together with the Education Department, in the next few days, we will try to reach out to schools to provide guidance,” said Febriandi. The sub-district, along with the four-pillar elements (Government, TNI, Polri, and the community), will also tighten security patrols. In addition to routine patrols on Saturday nights and Wednesdays, guarding around school areas during the daytime will be increased to anticipate potential friction between students. Previously, officers from the Palmerah Police Sector arrested two vocational students with the initials AS and MF while they were taking an exam at their school on Wednesday (10/6). Both teenagers were arrested after being proven to have slashed another student, identified with the initial F, in Gang T, Palmerah Barat VI, on Tuesday (9/6) morning. As a result of the indiscriminate attack using a belt and a sickle, victim F suffered a torn wound on his right shoulder and had to receive seven stitches at the hospital. Because both perpetrators are still underage, the Palmerah Police Sector confirmed that the legal process will proceed with reference to the Child Protection Law.
