Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has emphasised that there will be no increase in electricity tariffs in May 2026. This addresses public complaints regarding the alleged tariff hike.

“Up to today, as I speak and based on the exercises we have conducted, there has been no increase in electricity tariffs. If there is one in the future, it will be announced,” Bahlil explained after a limited meeting (Ratas) at the State Palace a few days ago, quoted on Friday (8/5/2026).

Previously, PT PLN (Persero) urged the public to be wary of misleading information circulating on social media about the unannounced electricity tariff increase.

Through an official post on the Instagram account @pln_id, the company confirmed that such news is untrue, or a hoax.

PLN stated that there has been no increase in electricity tariffs to date. The government has set the electricity tariffs to remain the same for the second quarter of 2026, namely April to June 2026, as in the previous period.

“In fact, there is no increase in electricity tariffs. The government has determined that electricity tariffs remain the same for the April-June 2026 period as in the previous period,” PLN wrote, quoted on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

PLN then reminded the public to always access information from official sources, either through the website or the company’s official social media channels.

As is known, electricity tariff policies refer to Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 7 of 2024 on Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero).

Adjustments to tariffs for non-subsidised customers are made every three months, based on changes in the realisation of macroeconomic parameters, including exchange rates, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and Benchmark Coal Price (HBA).
