Official Fees for Issuing and Renewing SIM A until April 2026

SOLO, KOMPAS.com - Every car driver is required to have a valid driving licence (SIM). SIMs nearing expiry must be renewed, while those that have expired must be reissued. SIM A is the document required for drivers of private four-wheeled vehicles, serving as proof of driving competence. This document indicates that an individual is deemed fit and capable of operating a vehicle on public roads properly and correctly. Additionally, car drivers without a SIM A will face traffic fines during checks by officers on the road, as they are considered to have violated the law in accordance with Law No. 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation (UU LLAJ). “The official fee for issuing new SIM A and general SIM A is Rp 120,000, while the renewal fee for SIM A and general SIM A is Rp 80,000, with no increase to date,” said Prianggo to KOMPAS.com on Wednesday (1/4/2026). However, these fees only cover the official state tariff or PNBP. In practice, SIM applicants also need to pay several unavoidable additional costs during the issuance process. Meanwhile, the psychology test has a slightly higher fee, around Rp 57,500 to Rp 100,000. This test aims to ensure the mental condition and readiness of the applicant for driving. There is also optional insurance with a fee generally ranging from Rp 30,000 to Rp 50,000. Although not mandatory, many applicants still opt for this as additional protection.
